Tower of Rune is a game of exploration, uncovering the map, and finding upgrades. Unlike similar games on a grander scale, ToR bypasses the twitch fighting and automates combat as an instant outcome when you meet your foes. Explore to level up, find upgrades to increase your stats even more, and uncover special relics that offer stat boosts or bonus effects as you travel through 8 floors of the Tower, fight bosses, and work your way towards one of three endings. Get the true ending and unlock a bonus mode that's a faster paced action focused mini-game to wrap up the story.
The project files contain most of the art and objects used to make the game. The screenshots shown are from the full game. Some studio-specific art for story scenes and such have been removed. The music and sound effects have been deleted because they were not licensed for distribution. The project is made fully in Drag 'n' Drop, so no GML training is needed and it's set up for anybody with a basic knowledge of GameMaker Studio 2 to riff on the project.
