Description

The Stormingleech Interactive Dialog Game Engine.

Two and a half years in the making, version 1 is now complete. Finally, create your own highly customized dialog boxes with visual styles, animated layers, typewriter text and more... all done through a visual interface within your game.

  • Create an entire visual novel featuring animated characters, avatar portraits, game logic, dynamically linked choice boxes... without writing a single line of code.
  • Just drop the editor object into a room and start making. Everything is designed on-screen, edited and positioned on-screen, and stored dynamically as you work. When you're done editing, replace the editor object with the show object and import your saved data files to build the final game.
  • The engine stores information generated by choices and more in a simple ds_map data structure, so you can build your own games around the engine without having to touch what's already been created for you.
  • Leverage 17,000 lines of pure GML; this engine is as cross-platform as GameMaker itself.
  • Furthermore, all project data is stored as JSON, making it easy to parse and edit by hand if that's ever needed.

BEFORE USING THE ENGINE, please review the getting started guide here: Wiki There's also a Getting Started video right here on the Marketplace listing! Note that the editor portion is designed to work on a desktop computer with a keyboard.

Version 1 is SHINY, NEW, and a little bit unpolished. Please be understanding when reviewing this enormous undertaking... Notes about latest updates can be found on the wiki, linked below and within the project.

There's a ludicrous amount of stuff in there, and some is deeply commented while other bits are in need of clarity--but then again, you use the engine entirely without code, so in theory you'll never need to see any of that!

Nonetheless, this engine will be improved with a long list of anticipated additional features, and lots of code cleanup and optimization will be added. But ALL of the core functionality is in there and it's ready to make games. It's modular, capable of handling new features without breaking old saves, and you can add effects, etc, very easily without needing to poke into the engine's core code.
