A great start, some tiffs.
There's a lot to love here, I am proud to have bought this before the sale. However, I feel that there's a few things that may be difficult to deal with for a beginner like me. Many things worked as basically expected, but a few threw me for a loop and it's problems that aren't unique to this game:
- No matter where you are, enemies seek you. Even from way off the player-visible screen.
- Invincible/grace frames. You can get hit twice in a second by damage floors or traps. This has been standard since the first Castlevania and Metroid.
- If the tileset cannot be used, then replace it. Use Kenney assets or assets available through OpenGameArt or similar that are CC-0.
- The gun system control scheme on mouse when movements are mapped on keyboard was ill-considered.
Thanks for the review. :)
Pretty solid if I do say so
Are you available for hire?
Thanks for the review, and yes I am.
The engine doesnt have the light system in video..
I like this engine but I really love to have those light system in your video as well, since they are 50% of the reason I purchase this extension.
it always break in 99% ..... .:(
I don't think there is anything I can do on my side, but I will look into it.
Impressive Engine, after some tweaks
Overall I find this engine to be the best executed of the asset packages for Metroidvania style platforming, with the potential of being a fantastic backbone for some great titles to come. I did find an error with script code after playing around with the project as-is [global.action was set to mouse_check_button_pressed(ord('Q')) instead of keyboard_check_pressed(ord('Q')) ], but aside from that minor issue and the lack of good explanatory comment blocks in the scripts, I have yet to find any issue with the engine itself. It will require a few tweaks here and there to make it do what you want it to, however that is no issue when 90% of the coding work is already done for you.
I do have a question for the content creator: what is the purpose of the Damage object in the Objects\Player\ folder, seeing as all the code within the object is commented out?
Pretty solid if I do say so.
Something I had to tweek to my liking. Like the speed of the Character. But that is just a personal thing. It is a bit to wrap your head around at first, but only if you are new to GM:S. Even then, documentation can be a bit of a pain to understand, that is LITERALLY MY ONLY complaint. Also, the devs said in another review, that they would be more than happy to help you with anything you need, so that is worth the 5 stars alone.
So far this engine has been great to me. I plan on releasing a game with it.
Thanks 2 Indie Devs, I will totally contact you at some point about my game!
Thanks we are happy you enjoy it.
We are working on improving documentation.
Congratulations and good luck with the game you are releasing. We would love to hear from you about your game and appreciate all your support.
there doesnt seem to be any documentation and code comments are a roll of the dice. Controls are hairy. Ill keep digging into it to see if this rating should be improved or lowered.
If you need help with anything just let me know. I would be glad to help.
If you can think of anything that would make it easier to understand I will add it, thanks.
