One of; if not the best lighting engine for GM:S!

One of the best extensions for GMS 1.4!
Would highly recommend the asset, very cheap and well coded for the price.

Would love to see a native GMS 2 update but still happy!

THE 2D lighting engine.

This is hands down one of the best assets on the marketplace. It's an excellent framework with an insane amount of content and pretty extensive documentation. I don't recall ever having to reach out to the developer about anything but everybody seems to agree that developer is very helpful and quick to respond and I wouldn't be surprised as the GMC is a great forum filled with really awesome people. This asset is definitely worth the $10 price tag.

Very Impressive!

This engine gave to my game a new atmosphere, saving 100+ hours of work.
The support is awesome! He answers questions quickly and is happy to explain to you the best ways of achieving the effects you want.

Complete and lengthy.

Currently the only source of learning how to use it is disecting the example, which can take quite a bit trying to trace the referencing of other objects and scripts and routing the web of objects and code. I checked the website provided supposedly having tutorials and such but it only explains how to initialize and create a mesh
A manual of sorts would be very very helpful as it's taking clueless people (like me) a long time to figure out how to do things like change the alpha of the darkness being drawn across the screen, or clearing neccessary parts to not leak memory.

Great performance since 2.2.1, easy to use!

Mainly love how easy this extension is to use, and as stated I noticed quite a big difference in my game's fps since 2.2.1 (it might have been because I was using occlusion not sure...) either way it was well worth the buy even close to a year ago (when I initially bought it)!

Great and flexible engine

Its a no brainer when you think of the ease of use (be it topdown or side view games), the flexibility , the features and massive ammount of configurations, and if that is not enough, well then, perhaps beying actively supported by its developer and consistently replying to the userbase with tips, solutions and bug fixes is.

What more could you want?

Best. $20. Ever.

A few weeks ago my sound guy and I were reviewing our budget. He saw I paid $20 for Glare Engine and said it was the best investment we've made. I have to agree.

Pretty overwhelming at first, I'd recommend making a simple game to figure it out before trying to plug it into your real project, but really awesome once you get the hang of it. Well worth the investment.

I just wish there were more tutorials and documentation online. Luckily the code is very well documented.

Favorite feature: ShadowArea. My top-down game has caves that are dark, even in the day :)

Poor performance or bugs on my end

Back in EARLY 2014 I used a different lighting engine (which, unreasonably, was free) and even though the documentation was in FRENCH it was easier to understand and quickly use the engine. I intended to use this for an Isometric perspective game but it flickers and lags. Completely unusable for me.

I'm not saying that it's terrible because it's quite obvious that others enjoy it quite well. But my experience wasn't similar in the slightest.

"Ambient Occlusion" simply equates to giving everything a near-black outline from what I saw.

Edit: I'm unsure but when I looked at the video it shows no such flickering. I'm unsure if maybe this is a recent bug or something? My desktop uses a 3.6GHZ Quad Core APU with a Radeon 170 so that.. really shouldn't be a bottleneck from the hardware. 8GB of Ram. The video doesn't show 3 of the examples though. And those are the ones that I actually experience the issues with though. Those are: Isometric, The one right before Spiders iirc, Platf.

I'm sorry that Glare is not as you expected.
The demo has always been available on the marketplace page, and I wonder why you have not tried it before buying.
If I understand what you mean, the "flickering" is caused by the light rotation, you can turn on the shadow blur to solve this issue.
What do you suggest for the ambient occlusion?

The best out there.

This is ultimately the best package out there, the case with many lighting engines is that they are extremely powerful and work well but they simply aren't documented so many people cannot use them. This has the best of both worlds, comprehensive documentation and a powerful engine. Good Job!

EDIT- After a few days of using the engine I got stuck with a problem, so I sent the developer an email and he opened a google+ chat and helped me debug it. Props to the developer as he did a great job!

Best Light Engine For GML

The engine is amazing. The learning curve is not extremely hard. You can become a pro in a day or two. It's a great engine for any 2D game at a great price. The only issue i have found is that when you scale lights, it adds around 10-15 texture swaps to the game. It's not too optimized for sprite heavy games.

Very easy to use

This lighting engine is the best out there for GMS. It will take you a couple hours to get the hang of it, but once up and running it's quite easy. My only complaint is that it seems to be locked to a top down prespective.

Superb!

I'm new to gamemaker with some basic/intermediate coding experience and wanted to add some lighting to my game. Whilst ambitious I thought I would give the Glare Engine a go.

At first I had no idea and got off to a slow start but I contacted the author and he very kindly added some "get started" tutorials to his support site which has made it very easy to understand so if you're a noob like me - don't be put off. With some trial and error you'll start to get it. His support has been excellent (despite studying for his exams) and I can't recommend this enough.

The difference it has made to my game is astonishing and I'm really happy with the end result. Great work!

Easy to use, good performance and great support.

First I was a bit disappointed because there was no way to use tiles to cast shadows, but Tizzio added the feature in a day after I asked for it. Didn't really expect such a quick response.
Seems to be very stable and clean code. Haven't encountered any bugs or memory leaks.
Definitely worth the price.

Excellent lighting engine, best on the market.

This engine is superb, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lighting engine and or considering buying this one. All necessary functions are needed for effective lighting for any game, very easy to implement and also easy to control everything using simple script calling. The manual is well presented and helps a lot when learning what each function does. The developer is very helpful and responsive, and keeps this engine alive with updates.

Fantastically effective, but poorly presented

After playing with this for a couple of hours, I'm more than pleased with the purchase! The scripts are incredibly versatile and it's relatively simple to get a room with some lights and walls up and running from scratch. The additional effects are also a great touch, with things like FXAA and ambient occlusion putting this a step above other lighting solutions I've tried. Definitely well worth the money, although not for beginners!

But...

(EDIT) No buts! Previous doubts/issues have been fixed with the new update. Magnificent tool and a 100% must have. :) I have now changed the 4 star to a 5 star rating. Great support and thanks for making this!

Fancy features, affordable, smart, but messy.

Pros:
- Shader based, amazing.
- Decent structure of scripts and shaders.
- Very advanced visuals at an affordable price.
- Very professional looking when running in-game.
- Fancy effects, such as FXAA and Occlusion really seal the deal.
- Not too much of a hassle to get working with your own project.

Cons:
- Resource tree outside scripts and shaders is messy.
(objects/sprites/ names of such, etc)
- Object-code actions are very all-over-the-place, also a bit messy.

Conclusion:
- Good for price, recommended if you don't mind tidying up a bit.
- Good idea in case you wanted to save time, instead of writing your own engine.
