Sometimes lags behind and gets offbeat, but it's not really a huge issue for my use case

One thing that might help is increasing the room speed of your game, which should in tern should increase the accuracy of the clock. The clock works by getting the system time and comparing it to the time the object was created, which should be very accurate. However, if your room speed is for instance set to 30, the calculation could be made up to 1/30th of a second late. This may be enough to make the timing feel off in instances where timing is critical.
